Instructional Website Evaluation - El Paso Independent School District

PROJECT SUMMARY
This project was completed during the Fall 2020 Semester as a requirement of the IDE 611-Technology for Instructional Settings course within Syracuse University's Master of Science in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) Program. The purpose of this project was to select the website of an educational organization for the purposes of evaluation. The evaluation of the website included a general description covering the website's purpose, intended audience, content, and unique features of the website. Further, the evaluative portion of the report included a detailed evaluative process conducted through the use of Arnone and Small's Content Validity Scale and Website Motivational Analysis Checklist (WebMAC). These tools were used to evaluate the website's professional attributes, value, validity, and expectations for success. The final evaluation of the website was based on the levels of stimulation, meaning, organization, and ease of use (SMOE). Lastly, the evaluation included the evaluator's recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

IDD&E PHASE
This project involved evaluative measures of an educational organization's website. As such, this project may be described as pertaining to the evaluation phase of IDD&E.

REFLECTION
This project served as an exploration of current information technology platforms used by educational organizations and institutions. The perspective and examples provided through an analytical and objective evaluation of the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) greatly enhanced my personal understanding of educational website construction. This perspective expanded my appreciation of the levels of effort and design exerted by instructional designers when constructing these technologies. Further, through the utilization of the aforementioned evaluative tools, I was afforded a deeper understanding of the intent of particular content and structure included in educational websites. Lastly, through the evaluation of a current website, my understanding relating to my own skills and knowledge was greatly expanded and will result in a better ability to design and construct similar technologies in the future.

SELF-ASSESMENT
This project, completed early in the Fall semester of the IDD&E M.S. Program, allowed me to conduct evaluative practices on an actual educational website. Further, this project delved deeply into the evaluation portion of the analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate (ADDIE) process, exposing me to the importance of evaluative practices. Lastly, this project enhanced my understanding on the evaluative portions of the IDD&E Standards of Practice and will ultimately aide me in increasing my personal levels of proficiency regarding those standards.
