Front-End Analysis Plan Report - U.S. Army EOD Team Leader Certification

PROJECT SUMMARY

This project was completed during the Spring 2021 Semester as a requirement of the IDE 712-Analysis for Human Performance Technology course within Syracuse University's Master of Science in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) Program.  The purpose of this project was to identify an existing FEA tool that could be adapted to analyze an instructional problem of our choice.  Further, the adapted tool would be utilized to conduct a full FEA of the problem of choice, U.S. Army EOD team Leader Certification.

IDD&E PHASE

This project involved designing, developing, and implementation of an FEA tool.  As such, this project may be described as pertaining to the design and development phases of IDD&E.

REFLECTION

This project served as an exploration of Front-End Analysis and provided me with the opportunity to explore various established FEA tools and models.  This exploration allowed me to gain a deeper appreciation of the efforts of educational and instructional analysists while also providing me with a great level of understanding regarding FEA tool use, adaptation, and application.  FEA analysis is a critical and necessary portion of instructional design and allows designers to thoroughly and completely understand the problem leading to performance gaps from various realms with considerations to nearly countless perspectives and variables.  Ultimately, this project allowed me to explore the ideas and theories of FEA while applying them to a deeply personal problem set, resulting in the analysis, understanding, and development of recommendations to close the associated performance gap.  The knowledge of FEA gained during this project will serve me well throughout the remainder of my studies and into my professional ID career.

SELF-ASSESMENT

This project, completed early in the Spring semester of the IDD&E M.S. Program, allowed me to apply an IDD&E competency towards a real-world instructional problem of my own choice.  By granting me ownership of the selected problem, this project allowed me to become deeply connected to the process and resulted in a thorough, complete, and personal analysis of a very real problem set, which holds close ties to my career as a U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician.  I believe this personal tie allowed me to create a product of exceptional value to myself, my Soldiers, and the U.S. Army as and organization.
